On ICON Design the project of Stefano Boeri Architetti for the new Matera FAL Central Station that will link the second city of Basilicata to the closest airport of Bari and to the rest of Italy through high speed connections.
The project, developed for Ferrovie Appio Lucane is one of realizations proposed to celebrate Matera European Capital of Culture 2019. The realization is programmed in two phases. The first will be inaugurated by the end of 2018 to welcome visitors, while the completion of the station building that will include the reception, the ticket booth and a connection to the underground platform is foreseen in May 2019. The structure dialogues with the pedestrian square where it is located and that is connected to the main axes leading to the historic city. The new platform roof is designed as an urban landmark and a place for meeting and gathering.
