In issue 189 of Arketipo, titled Post Trauma and dedicated to emergency and reconstruction architecture, the projects by Stefano Boeri Architetti for Genoa are presented, following the collapse of the Ponte Morandi in August 2018—specifically, the masterplan for Parco del Polcevera, the August 14 2018 Memorial, inaugurated in 2024, and Radura della Memoria, completed in 2020.
In particular, the masterplan for Parco del Polcevera aims to foster reconstruction—not only from an architectural and urban perspective, but above all from a social one—within an extremely diverse area. It envisions a high-quality rebirth in terms of form and services, designed primarily for the people who live and work there. The goal is to rebuild a cohesive and socially active urban system, innovative enough not only to revitalize the district itself but also to become a catalyst for the surrounding areas.
The August 14, 2018 Memorial, on the other hand, represents a place of respect and remembrance, of testimony and reflection, in memory of the 43 victims. It stands near the former Pier 9 of the Ponte Morandi, a particularly significant site in recalling the tragic event.
Finally, Radura della Memoria, conceived by Stefano Boeri Architetti, Inside Outside | Petra Blaisse, and Luca Vitone, consists of a circular wooden podium with a diameter of 50 meters, within which 43 different tree species are planted. Their variety recalls the biodiversity typical of the Mediterranean maquis and each tree is dedicated to one of the 43 victims of the Ponte Morandi bridge collapse.
