The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests (IDF) in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests. On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests  and for 2018 it is Forests and Sustainable Cities.

Vertical Forest designed by Boeri studio has been picked by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) as a model for sustainable urban development and an effective solution for Urban Forestry. Stefano Boeri Architetti, jointly with other protagonists of the first World Forum on Urban Forests 2018, is promoting the call to action inviting everyone, from governments to common citizens, to plant more trees in our cities, thus increasing the biodiversity and enhancing the global network of forests protecting the planet from global warming and air pollution.

The FAO’s program proposes some easy steps to mark the Day of Forests, discover them on the official web site and join the international community of Urban Forestry enthusiasts:
