Within the publication Territori Plurali, produced on the occasion of Campania Architettura – Festival for Plural Territories, organized in April 2023 by the Campania Region, the Coastal Masterplan for South Salerno project is presented. The project was developed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and Società Cooperativa MATE, together with StudioSilva and F Tourism & Marketing.
The festival aims to promote and experiment with a new and open approach to architectural design, one that integrates the needs of places with community practices, helping to co-create deeply sustainable futures.
The Coastal Masterplan for South Salerno is part of the Integrated Enhancement Programs aimed at the redevelopment of large areas of the regional territory. The project was launched in 2021 following a tender for the development of the Campania coastline, with the objective of strengthening and rethinking a complex coastal area of great landscape and environmental value.
The project includes 8 municipalities (Salerno, Pontecagnano-Faiano, Bellizzi, Battipaglia, Eboli, Capaccio-Paestum, Agropoli, and Castellabate), covering a total of 480 square kilometers, along 50 km of coastline, and involving a population of 310,000 inhabitants. The area is characterized by a strong historical and natural identity, thanks to the presence of archaeological sites—such as Paestum and Pontecagnano—as well as environmentally significant areas like the Cilento National Park and the Sele Plain.
