Domus dedicates an online article to the project for the new Ospedale Policlinico (Policlinico Hospital) in Milan, designed by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra) and currently in its finalization phase.
The project involves the creation of a new hospital complex made up of three volumes, combining high clinical efficiency, urban functions, commercial spaces, and a large green roof conceived as a therapeutic device and new urban square.
On the roof of the central building, in fact, a hanging garden of over 7,000 square meters is planned, initially reserved for use by patients and staff from the various departments, but which in the future could be opened to the public for special events of a recreational and therapeutic nature.
Maintaining the system of separate volumes and staying within the existing perimeter, the new complex will house medical-surgical and maternal-child departments. On the ground floor, a large gallery serves as the entrance to the facility and as a hub connecting the various pavilions of the healthcare campus, while also integrating spaces designated for commercial activities. The goal is to engage in dialogue with the urban fabric and integrate with its functions. Likewise, the large roof garden is conceived both as a therapeutic device and as a new green square, and promises to be one of the most significant urban afforestation initiatives planned for the city center in the coming years.
