30.09.2021 – 30.09.2026. Trudo Vertical Forest celebrates five years since its completion.
Designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, the Trudo Vertical Forest is the first delination of the Vertical Forest model to social housing. Located in the redeveloped Strijp-S district, the 75-metre-high residential tower was conceived primarily for low-income residents, including young professionals and students, offering affordable housing together with access to generous terraces and a living environment shaped by trees and vegetation.
The building hosts 125 social housing units across 19 floors. Its four façades are home to 135 trees and approximately 5,200 shrubs and smaller plants, bringing the total number of plants to around 8,500, with more than 70 different species contributing to a new habitat for biodiversity within the urban environment.
Through prefabricated construction technologies, optimized resources and a carefully developed system of planters and vegetation, Trudo Vertical Forest combines the environmental ambitions of a green building with the economic requirements of social housing.
On 2 October, the documentary Trudo Vertical Forest – a journey into the world’s first social housing Vertical Forest will be screened as part of the Film and Architecture Festival. Produced by The Blink Fish and directed by Stefano Santamato, the film retraces the development of the project through the voices of the architects, botanists, construction professionals and, above all, the young residents who inhabit the tower.
