Rietveld Prize 2026 shortlist

The jury, chaired by architect Do Janne Vermeulen, has selected nine nominations for the Rietveld Prize 2026, Utrecht’s architecture award aimed at promoting the quality of the built environment, among which features Wonderwoods, a project by Stefano Boeri Architetti and MVSA Architects, within the urban regeneration plan in Beurskwartier, the new pedestrian area adjacent to the Central Station.

In particular, the Wonderwoods Vertical Forest project by Stefano Boeri Architetti is a 104-metre tower that reinterprets the vertical forest model — characterised by a strong presence of trees and plants — in a mixed-use key: following the Bosco Verticale in Milan and the Trudo Vertical Forest (in social housing) in Eindhoven, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest is the world’s first vertical forest featuring public functions open to citizens, with the aim of making this innovative architectural typology increasingly integrated into the urban fabric and accessible to all.

In addition to the Rietveld Prize, this year the Truus Schröder Prize is being awarded for the second time to a project that demonstrates a strong relationship with the client. Truus Schröder was the client and co-designer of the world-famous Rietveld Schröder House.

All awards will be presented on 13 November at the Stadsschouwburg in Utrecht. On the occasion of the award ceremony, a publication will also be released containing the jury report, a photographic feature on the nine nominations, and an essay on a current topic.
