On May 1, 2026, as part of the Worker Bees and Honey Festival at Cascina Linterno in Milan, the inauguration of the Green Tensegrity project took place. Designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti in collaboration with the Department of Architecture at the University of Patras and with the support of engineers from the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the project stems from participatory processes involving stakeholders of Cascina Linterno. This historic Milanese farmhouse is protected by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and located within the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano (South Milan Agricultural Park). The project focuses on the enhancement of beekeeping, a core identity of the site alongside its agricultural and educational functions.
The intervention involves the creation of a multifunctional pergola serving the Apicoltura Veca farm and the Scuola del Glicine (Wisteria School). It is intended for educational and recreational activities designed to introduce students and visitors to the world of biodiversity and the role of pollinating insects. Conceived as an independent and temporary structure, the pergola—equipped with a protective mesh—integrates into the landscape of the South Milan Agricultural Park through a careful selection of native plant species, without requiring morphological or infrastructural changes to the area.
During the event, parents and children took their places inside the structure. Thanks to the light and transparent netting, which protects users during demonstration activities without compromising visual permeability, it was possible to witness the release of bees and pollinating insects into the surrounding flowerbeds, where specific plants and flowers had been planted.
