TODAY IN FLORENCE MEETING WITH STEFANO BOERI ABOUT COUNTERTERRORISM

August 29th, 2017

“Artists, architects, and not only Italian experts make a contribution to our city to launch a model that can be replicated in all Italian cities and beyond. Security can and should go hand in hand with beauty. Our cities cannot surrender to the psychological blackmail of terrorists”. This is the call launched by the Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella before the ‘brainstorming’ meeting to design anti-attack barriers in the form of works of art to be placed at strategic points in Florence. The appointment is scheduled on August 30th in Palazzo Vecchio, organized by the Municipality in the presence of Architect Stefano Boeri. “We have caught up with this idea – the Mayor pointed out – and we have already begun to put it into practice, because we think it is possible and necessary in the case of a city like Florence, that is a world model to reconcile security with aesthetics.  As far as possible, always following the addresses of Prefecture and Order and Security Committee, we will replace concrete barriers and new jersey with innovative solutions, architecturally and aesthetically suited to our city and our cultural heritage. “
