Il Giorno has published an article dedicated to new projects and construction sites nearing completion in the province of Monza e Brianza, including the redevelopment project of the Aler public housing buildings managed by the U.O.G. Monza Brianza, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti. The project aims to improve residents’ quality of life through the architectural and energy regeneration of two buildings on Via Baradello, in the heart of Monza’s industrial district.
Energy efficiency, energy upgrading, and architectural quality are the key principles underlying the intervention on the Aler buildings at Via Baradello 6 and 12. Thanks to funding allocated through the Piano nazionale di ripresa e resilienza (PNRR) for the energy component, combined with the vision of Stefano Boeri Architetti, the project gives the buildings a distinctive identity and a unique housing standard for public residential construction.
Covering a total area of 8,270 square meters, the project first addresses the reconnection of the two buildings, which are currently separated by a divided common space that creates a break between the two communities. The introduction of shared green areas, connected by pedestrian pathways and tree-lined routes, overcomes this division, creating an accessible and communal environment for residents while maintaining a clear and distinct identity for each building.
“This project represents for us a concrete example of how working with existing structures can improve the quality of living. The goal is to complete the works by the summer, aware that intervening on already built structures always entails complexities and uncertainties—challenges that have accompanied the entire process and are inevitably part of this type of intervention. We continue to work with care and responsibility to complete a project that places people and the quality of everyday life at its core,” says Pietro Chiodi, Partner at the firm and project lead.
