Intervista a Stefano Boeri su Il Foglio

In Il Foglio, as part of the Gran Milano section edited by Maurizio Crippa, Giovanni Seu interviews Stefano Boeri about the state of Milan and the new buildings, especially the new skyscrapers, that are being developed in the city.

Starting from the most iconic architectures of the Milan skyline, such as the Pirellone and the Torre Velasca, the article focuses on the changes that Milan’s new skyscrapers have undergone and are bringing to the urban environment. In particular, the Porta Nuova area has seen, since 2005, a considerable increase in the presence of towers, including the Bosco Verticale, a project by Boeri Studio, completed in 2014.

“Criticising skyscrapers for their own sake makes no sense […] Milan has had few tall buildings, the Torre Velasca and the Pirelli building have remained solitary, but in the past people did not give up building high, like the Torre dei Malsani in Corso Ticinese or the Asperto Tower in Corso Magenta. Today the situation is different, there are the new neighbourhoods characterised by skyscrapers. And we already have in Bicocca an example of a subsidised building. In Eindhoven I created a vertical forest in social housing: it is an example that can be repeated in Milan too,’ says Stefano Boeri.
