On Friday, April 19th, starting from 2:30 PM, Livia Shamir, Project Leader at the Research Department of Stefano Boeri Architetti, speaks at the Executive Master on Parks and Protected Areas Management, in collaboration with Touring Club Italia, Fondazione Campus, and Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).

The presentation is part of the weekend dedicated to the specific regulatory, legislative, and administrative aspects related to protected areas and the best practices of the Adamello/Brenta and Tosco-Emiliano National Parks, focusing on sustainability certification within the parks. Livia Shamir introduces the Parco Italia project during this event.

Parco Italia is a proposal by Stefano Boeri Architetti and AlberItalia, inspired by the broader Green Urban Oases afforestation project – developed by Stefano Boeri Architetti in collaboration with the FAO and other research institutions – aimed at creating ecological corridors spanning 90 cities from Africa to Central Asia.

The adaptation of this vision in Italy aims to extend urban afforestation to 15 metropolitan areas (Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Messina, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Turin, Venice), connecting them via green corridors to the Apennine backbone and the Alpine system, creating a unified infrastructure across the peninsula. This would result in the planting of over 22 million new trees within a few years, roughly one tree per inhabitant of the 15 cities: a number that, when expanded to metropolitan areas with a population exceeding 15,000 inhabitants, could reach 60 million. These figures could lead to a significant improvement in public health by absorbing 250-400 tons of carbon dioxide annually, promoting national and transnational ecological connections, combating climate change, and fostering ecological transition.
