Arte incompleta e incompiuta

On Friday, March 1st, at 6:30 PM, the event Arte incompleta e incompiuta (Incomplete and Unfinished Art) takes place at the Milano Painting Academy, marking the second meeting of the “Drawn Concepts” Showcase, featuring Stefano Boeri.

The meeting focuses on the restoration and arrangement of Raphael’s School of Athens Cartoon at the Ambrosian Library and the relocation of Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini to the Sforza Castle in Milan.

The new arrangement for the Cartoon, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, maintains elements of continuity with previous setups by Luigi Caccia Dominioni in the 1960s and Griffini in the 1990s. This includes the position of the Cartoon on the West wall and a filtering wall before reaching the artwork, although the perception has been radically changed.

After an extensive restoration, coordinated by a prestigious Scientific Committee composed of the Ambrosian Library’s College of Doctors and Experts from the Vatican Museums, the Milan Superintendency, and the Conservation and Restoration Center “La Venaria Reale,” the masterpiece has been placed in a new display case. This case consists of an imposing protective glass slab with dimensions equal to those of the artwork itself (8 meters in width by 3 meters in height, covering a total area of 24 square meters), setting a record as the largest single-door display case in the world.
