Wonderwoods in Norte en Linea

The Spanish website Norte en Línea has published an article entitled Global Model of Smart Green Building, dedicated to the Wonderwoods Vertical Forest project, developed by Stefano Boeri Architetti in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Awarded in the category Building & Community: Global Model of Smart Green Building/Community at the New Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards, established by the Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS) and supported by United Nations agencies, the project is a 104-metre-high tower that reinterprets the vertical forest model. Characterised by a strong presence of trees and plants, it adopts a mixed-use approach: following the Bosco Verticale in Milan and the Trudo Vertical Forest (social housing) in Eindhoven, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest is the first vertical forest in the world to feature public functions open to citizens, with the aim of making this innovative architectural typology increasingly integrated into the urban fabric and accessible to everyone.

The building, inaugurated in early 2025, hosts around 200 apartments of various types designed for a diverse range of users, along with retail spaces, sports and leisure areas, and restaurants.

With 360 trees and 50,000 plants from 30 native species, equivalent to the vegetation of one hectare of forest, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest supports a high level of plant biodiversity and makes a significant contribution to improving urban quality of life, absorbing carbon dioxide and fine particulate matter, producing oxygen, and regulating the local microclimate.
