Bosco Verticale su renewable energy magazine

Renewable Energy Magazine, which focuses on issues related to ecological transition, published an article entitled “12 Ways Architects Can Combat Climate Change“, citing Boeri Studio’s Bosco Verticale as one of the most virtuous examples.

In the global fight against climate change, architects are instrumental in steering the construction industry towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. The decisions they make not only affect the appearance and functionality of a building, but have a drastic impact on the environment.
The list of techniques to reduce building consumption includes water management, choice of materials and the multiplication of biodiversity.

As a project moving in this direction, the Bosco Verticale in Milan is cited as the first example of a paradigm shift in architectural design, placing the vegetal component at the centre of the design.
With vegetation equivalent to that of 30,000 square metres of woodland and undergrowth, concentrated on 3,000 square metres of urban area; a centralised control of irrigation and natural shading provided by the shading of the plants, the Bosco Verticale overcomes the still substantially anthropocentric and technicist concept of “sustainability” in the direction of a new biological diversity. Almost 10 years after its construction, the Bosco Verticale has thus created a habitat colonised by numerous species of animals (including around 1,600 birds and butterflies), establishing an outpost of spontaneous plant and animal recolonisation in the city.
