The local authorities of the Valdinievole area have formally endorsed the implementation protocol for the Valdinievole masterplan, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti.
The plan covers the entire Valdinievole area, which extends over 260 square kilometres and has a population of around 120,000 inhabitants.
The primary objectives of the vision are to improve inter-municipal road links and enhance soft mobility networks by connecting all the trails into a single system: a 72-kilometre cycle ring, starting from the existing routes, connects them into a single physical network that crosses the different landscapes.
The area is characterised by common historical, landscape, economic and infrastructural features, with a majority of agricultural and natural wooded areas, while urbanised areas occupy less than a quarter of the territory.
Stefano Boeri Architetti’s project for the Valdinievole is therefore a device of social connectivity, by networking local services and resources; of physical connectivity, thanks to the creation of a cycle and sustainable infrastructure; and of cultural and technological connectivity, by enhancing the existing heritage and favoring the development of energy communities and the implementation of renewable and sustainable production systems, useful to make the territory self-sufficient in terms of energy production.
