Corriere della Sera published an interview with Stefano Boeri centred on his proposal for the San Siro area, which on the one hand envisages a new International Forest Stadium for Milan in La Maura, with the return of more than 400,000 square metres of greenery to the city, and on the other the redevelopment of the Meazza with the creation of a large park in Piazzale Axum, now completely impermeable.
“The project from the environmental point of view responded to a criterion of total compensation, but in addition it gave two new parks to the city. Not one, two parks, with two stadiums that became new and with two teams that did not even have to change their brand: Ac Milan at San Siro (Maura) and Fc Inter at San Siro (Meazza). Our project was born from the hypothesis that the two teams would both remain in Milan and at San Siro, albeit in two different locations in the neighbourhood. Milan at La Maura, in the northernmost area where there is a horse-training track and there is already a grandstand for concerts. Moreover, avoiding the demolition of the Meazza, which I seriously doubt can live without football, would have avoided enormous environmental damage,” says Stefano Boeri.
