Open Science Meeting 2026

From the 2nd to the 4th of February, the ESA Digital Twin Earth Components: Open Science Meeting 2026 takes place, an event dedicated to leveraging Earth Observation data to develop digital twins capable of simulating complex scenarios and supporting strategic decision-making across a wide range of fields — from hydrology and agriculture to ice sheets and urban areas, with the participation of Luis Pimentel from the Research Department of Stefano Boeri Architetti.

The event also contributes to the evolution of Destination Earth (DestinE), the European Commission’s flagship project to create a digital replica of the planet. It represents an important opportunity for dialogue among the scientific community, institutions, industry, and stakeholders to present the latest developments, share research results, and strengthen European collaboration on Digital Twins.

Within this framework, on 3 February at 16:30, Luis Pimentel will take part in the session Building DTCs for Stakeholder Needs, chaired by Martin Wearing and Diego Fernandez Prieto. As part of the SURE — Smart Urban Resilience Enhancement project, the session will explore what emerges at the intersection of Earth Observation tools and urban planning processes, highlighting how this integration becomes even more crucial in addressing the challenges of climate change in cities.

Other panel participants include Holger Ruf (Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm Netze GmbH), Juan Fernandez Sainz (MSF), Francesca Sini (Regione Marche), and Marton Tolnai (CropOM).
