trudo vertical forest in fatos Desconhecidos

The Brazilian website Fatos Desconhecidos published an article by Henrique Santos entitled Buildings Turned into Forests Are Changing Cities, which presents the Trudo Vertical Forest, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti in Eindhoven, as a virtuous example.

The article focuses on the idea of “vertical forests”, which transform urban architecture into something closer to a natural ecosystem — starting from the first example in Milan, developed by Boeri Studio, and extending to its adaptations in different contexts and locations.

In this context, the Dutch project is the first vertical forest entirely dedicated to social housing. The complex vision of residential coexistence between humans and other species is thus amplified in the project into a dual challenge: combining the major issue of the environmental crisis with the urgent need for affordable housing in contemporary cities.

The Trudo Vertical Forest is part of the urban regeneration plan for “Strijp-S” and creates, within the metropolitan environment, a new green habitat for the development of biodiversity: a true ecosystem supported by the coexistence of more than 70 different plant species. It helps counter air pollution by absorbing CO₂ and fine particulate matter, further developing the model first experimented with in Milan and now brought to the Netherlands as an expression of a new design paradigm, in which vegetation and living nature are considered constitutive elements — no longer merely ornamental — of architectural language.
