Dezeen has dedicated an article by Jon Astbury to the Wonderwoods Vertical Forest, entitled Stefano Boeri Architetti completes latest Vertical Forest skyscraper in Utrecht.

Completed in 2025, the project is part of the urban regeneration plan for Beurskwartier, the new pedestrian area adjacent to the Central Station in Utrecht, and is included in a larger intervention involving the construction of two towers designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and MVSA Architects.

The article focuses on the features of the building, a 104-metre-high tower that reinterprets the Vertical Forest model—characterised by a strong presence of trees and plants—in a mixed-use key. Following the Bosco Verticale in Milan and the Trudo Vertical Forest (social housing) in Eindhoven, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest is the world’s first Vertical Forest to include public functions accessible to citizens. Its goal is to make this innovative architectural typology increasingly integrated into the urban fabric and accessible to all.

From a cultural perspective, Wonderwoods Vertical Forest represents an innovation in the landscape of contemporary European architecture, an important experiment in the demineralisation of vertical architectural surfaces and, at the same time, a new urban landmark for Utrecht thanks to its strategic location in the city centre and its high functional mix, designed to foster inclusiveness for all citizens.
