Wonderwoods Vertical Forest has been awarded the 2025 International Architecture Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Now in its twentieth edition, the International Architectural Awards celebrate the most innovative and cutting-edge projects on an international level.
Wonderwoods Vertical Forest by Stefano Boeri Architetti has been awarded first prize in the Mixed–Use category. This 104-metre tower reinterprets the vertical forest model, characterised by a strong presence of trees and plants, in a mixed-use context. It is the first vertical forest in the world to feature public functions open to citizens, with the aim of making this innovative architectural typology increasingly integrated into the urban fabric and accessible to all.
Wonderwoods Vertical Forest is a unique and innovative green space solution that boasts an impressive 360 trees and 50,000 plants of 30 native species. This impressive array of vegetation is equivalent to the vegetation of one hectare of forest, making it a significant contributor to urban biodiversity. The forest’s benefits extend beyond aesthetic appeal, with its ability to absorb carbon dioxide and fine particles, produce oxygen and regulate the local microclimate, enhancing the quality of life in the city.
The award ceremony, organised by the Chicago Atheneum and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, will be held on Saturday 20 September 2025 in Athens, Greece.
