On Monday May 29th at 6.30 p.m. at Casa degli Atellani, Corso Magenta 65, Milan, there will be the presentation of the book by Gianluca Galletto, former advisor to Bill De Blasio in the New York City administration, Viva New York, with the author dialoguing with Stefano Boeri on the major issues related to the city’s development and contemporary national and international urban challenges.

The round table also includes a speech by Cristina Tajani, former councillor of Milan, now member of the Senate.

Journalist Christian Rocca moderates.

In seven short letters, full of facts and unpublished considerations, the book, with an introduction by former New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, takes a snapshot of the economic and social reality of New York City in the new 1920s, after the remarkable transformation that has taken place over the last ten years. It is a laboratory of ideas, movements, activism and business, far removed from the idea that many still have of the Big Apple, linked to Wall Street, Sex & the City and Woody Allen. The New York of today is solidly the most important and largest tech hub in the world after Silicon Valley, and outperforms the competition by many ‘leagues’. Today, it no longer makes sense for a European tech company wanting to grow in the US to open a second headquarters in the Bay Area. NYC offers similar abundance of capital, entertainment and culture.

“In the title of the book,” De Blasio writes in the preface, “with that ‘Viva New York’, Gianluca Galletto pays tribute to my city, urging it to improve itself and offering a testimony of informed, civilised and technical writing. With lightness, page after page, he moves from anecdotes to analytical examples that explain how to administer a great metropolis like New York, suggesting that my Italian colleagues consider these ideas’.
