Stefano Boeri su Susrsuma

The industry website Sursuma publishes an interview with Stefano Boeri, retracing his career—from the projects of Multiplicity, to the Bosco Verticale, and up to the latest works by Stefano Boeri Architetti.

Lucija Šutej’s interview begins with Boeri’s professional inspirations and research work, then focuses on the studio’s most distinctive architectural projects.

The article therefore ranges from figures such as Bernardo Secchi to projects like the Bagnore 3 geothermal power plant; from Solid Sea, conceived by the Multiplicity collective, and the editorial work for Domus and Abitare, to Milan’s Bosco Verticale, designed by Boeri Studio (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra).

“We are probably moved by obsessions more than by passions. That’s what I think makes our profession so different from the others—the way we put together research and design, how we study, observe and analyze. With a necessity to see and decide the shape of a space—a configuration of the future. Another passion and active observation I have had since childhood are trees. I always thought that trees are individuals—every tree has individuality, its needs and expectations. This turned into the Vertical Forest. While I was teaching at Harvard University (Graduate School of Design), I was studying the explosion of Dubai, a city in the desert—a city of skyscrapers with glass façades. And I thought about how much energy was consumed. So I moved towards trees as a way to conceive biological buildings as living ecosystems, surrounded and shaded by plants,” says Stefano Boeri.
