Inside Il Mattino di Padova, an article by Federico Franchin presents the project for the redevelopment of the Kursaal in Abano Terme, designed by Stefano Boeri Interiors and Stefano Boeri Architetti.
On Wednesday, October 1, the public presentation of the project took place. It is part of an urban strategy that connects the Kursaal and its gardens with the new pedestrian axis leading to the Urban Thermal Park, creating a continuous system of public spaces, greenery, and pedestrian paths.
The regeneration of the building and its gardens aims to restore the Kursaal’s role as a community hub, enriching it with mixed functions that include cultural, recreational, and commercial activities. The gardens are reimagined as meeting and event spaces, while the new pedestrian axis along Via Jappelli becomes a green corridor linking the Kursaal with the Urban Thermal Park. This enhances the continuity of the urban fabric and promotes slow mobility for cyclists and pedestrians. The project interprets the theme of urban regeneration not as mere architectural recovery, but as an opportunity to redesign a system of public spaces: squares, pathways, gardens, and green areas that become social infrastructure.
Through this intervention, Abano not only recovers an emblematic place but transforms it into a new public space for the community and visitors alike. The proposed regeneration returns to the community an open and inclusive public space, reconnecting the city with its history and landscape, and offering a contemporary model of dialogue between architecture, nature, and culture.
