Bosco Verticale su ad italia

AD Italia has published an article by Kieron Marchese titled “20 Truly Incredible Sustainable Buildings: Green Architecture That Heals Our Planet”, which features the Bosco Verticale by Boeri Studio, inaugurated in 2014 in the Porta Nuova district of Milan.

In the world of sustainable architecture, “green” doesn’t necessarily mean green-colored façades or vegetated walls. Today’s most ecological structures go far beyond aesthetics, actively healing our planet, engaging communities, and rethinking energy consumption models.

Within this context, among international examples from Copenhagen, Bali, Singapore, Australia, and the United States, the only Italian project included in the list is the Bosco Verticale—an urban reforestation project that contributes to environmental regeneration and urban biodiversity without expanding the city’s footprint.

The project consists of two residential towers, 110 and 76 meters tall, located in central Milan, in the Porta Nuova district. Together, they host 800 trees, 4,500 shrubs, and 20,000 plants from around 100 different species, distributed according to the sun exposure of each façade.

The Bosco Verticale contains vegetation equivalent to about five hectares of flat woodland, concentrated into an area of just 1,000 square meters—fifty times smaller. The environmental benefits are numerous: absorption of fine dust and CO₂, oxygen production, water management optimization, noise pollution reduction, and an overall improvement in quality of life—for people, plants, and animals alike.
