The construction site of the House of the Future project for the post-earthquake reconstruction of the Don Minozzi Center in Amatrice is one of the largest in the crater area. Begun in 2021, it was temporarily halted in 2023 due to issues with the contracted company.
In March 2025, work resumed with a new group of companies and now the project is proceeding with the aim of delivering the Center in 2027.
The House of the Future project is structured around four courtyard areas – Corte Civica, Corte del Silenzio, Corte dell’Accoglienza, Corte delle Arti e del Mestieri – each hosting different social utility functions. The aim is to provide Amatrice with a new public space while creating a hub for hospitality and education open to younger generations.
Among the project’s key aspects is the reuse of 70% of the rubble from the previous Center, destroyed by the earthquake, which will be repurposed for road foundations, paved areas, and drainage surfaces. Equally noteworthy is the preservation of historical elements on-site, particularly the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Fontana delle Pecore, and the Torre Civica of Amatrice, reinforcing the complex’s reconnection with the historical fabric.
“Almost nine years after the tragedy of the earthquake, the building site for the reconstruction of the Don Minozzi complex in Amatrice is progressing with the aim of completing the work by 2027. The construction site covers an area of 50,000 square metres and involves 5 buildings partially or totally compromised by the earthquake of 24 August 2016: this is a fundamental project for the entire Cratere area, because it will represent the first public building for the Amatrice community.” Stefano Boeri
