On 6 November 2025, Detroit hosts the Sustainable Urban Design Summit, with the participation of Stefano Boeri.
The Sustainable Urban Design Summit is a day of meetings and debates dedicated to exploring the future of cities through the lens of sustainability, mobility, neighbourhood development and living. Stefano Boeri will participate in the session entitled ‘Why Architects Are the Impetus to Sustainable Development’.
The panel addresses how design, planning and sustainability intertwine in shaping contemporary cities, emphasising the importance of a human and regenerative approach to design. The aim is to show how architecture can become a driver of social and environmental transformation, capable of combining innovation, community and respect for the planet. In this perspective, architects are not simply builders of buildings, but true agents of change, promoters of a more sustainable and inclusive urban future.
Moderated by Dan Pitera, Dean of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture + Community Development, the panel brings together a number of voices in the field of architecture and urban design, including: Cody Hansen (Albert Kahn Associates) brings the perspective of responsible, energy-efficient architecture; Janet Attarian (SmithGroup) shares her experience in designing sustainable infrastructure and mobility strategies; Simon David (OSD) reflects on the regenerative role of landscape and public space as key elements of the city of the future.
