The theme of sustainable urbanisation is at the centre of the article published by CDT, where the Vertical Forest in Milan<\/strong><\/a> (Boeri Studio) represents a model that \u2018improves air quality in its surroundings and acts as a small ecosystem in the centre of the city\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Vertical Forest<\/strong> is the prototype-building of a new architecture of biodiversity, which no longer places man alone at the centre, but the relationship between man and other living species. The first case to be built, in Milan in the Porta Nuova area, consists of two towers, 80 and 112 m high, which together host vegetation equivalent to that of 30,000 square metres of forest and undergrowth, concentrated on 3,000 square metres of urban area. The project is thus also a device to limit urban sprawl.<\/p>\n

In contrast to \u2018mineral\u2019 fa\u00e7ades made of glass or stone, the vegetal screen of the Vertical Forest<\/strong> does not reflect or amplify the sun’s rays, but filters them, generating a cosy indoor microclimate without harmful effects on the environment. At the same time, the green curtain \u2018regulates\u2019 humidity, produces oxygen and absorbs CO2 and particulate matter.<\/p>\n

The Vertical Forest<\/strong> concept, i.e. being \u2018a house for trees that also houses humans and birds\u2019, defines not only the urban and technological characteristics but also the architectural language and expressive qualities of the project.<\/p>\n
