The American website CNN publishes an article titled The new architecture set to shape the world in 2024, focusing on some international examples of innovation in the field of architecture, including Nanjing Vertical Forest, the first vertical forest built in Nanjing by Stefano Boeri Architetti, located in the Ninjing Pukou District, an area set to lead the innovation process of southern Jiangsu and the development of the Yangtze River area.

From Benin to Norway, Singapore to Ecuador and Australia, Oscar Holland’s article considers the major trends shaping architecture in 2023, presenting 10 examples exemplifying the innovation and originality that will characterize 2024.

Among the projects presented, space is given to Nanjing Vertical Forest, consisting of two towers characterized by alternating balconies and green pools on the façade that house 600 large trees, 200 medium-cut trees, and more than 2,500 shrubs and dropping plants that will cover an area of 4,500 square meters.

A common functional mix animates both towers: the first, 200-meter-tall tower and the second, 108-meter-tall tower, on the other hand, include in their 31 floors a prevalence of offices-from the eighth to the thirty-fifth floor-as well as the presence of a museum and a green architecture school.

The project is part of an urban forestation vision that guides Stefano Boeri Architetti’s designs, seeking contemporary solutions to combat, architecturally and urbanistically, the critical climate situation both in China and globally. In a place characterized by high pollution and particulate matter, the concept of urban forestation manifests itself in the desire to create a collection of sustainable, future-oriented ecosystems.
