common earth | cluodburst foundation and commonwealth: regenerative development to reverse climate change
What will development cost us? How to face Climate Change? Questions from the Common Earth Launching 2018 video make us rethink the relationship between human and nature, society and economics, the present and the future of the world.
“We are part of a community of the world. If we want to create a life-affirming legacy, we must work with the understanding that Earth’s commons, the oceans, lands air, and life can, in fact, be healed and regenerated through human development”.
The aim of the Common Earth is shifting the current model of sustainability from doing less harm to a regenerative model of doing most good. True wealth is when the world’s resources are managed to promote human happiness, dignity and prosperity for all people and future generations.
Common Earth emerged from the “Regenerative Development to Reverse Climate Change” initiative organized by the Cloudburst Foundation in October 2016 at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. It’s an international consortium supporting efforts to regenerate the wealth of Earth’s commons to meet and exceed the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The global commons are the dynamic, living systems that are the basis of life on Earth. Humanity’s social and economic well-being are dependent on the health of our common land, oceans, and atmosphere. Caring for them properly requires valuing human dignity and understanding that true wealth derives from a healthy planet.
Climate change is our opportunity to get the whole of human development right.
