intervista a stefano boeri sul corriere adriatico

In Il Corriere Adriatico, Martina Marinangeli interviews Stefano Boeri about the plans drawn up following the 2016 earthquake that struck several regions in Central Italy, focusing in particular on the Implementation Plan for the Reconstruction of Castelsantangelo sul Nera created by the temporary grouping of which MATE and Stefano Boeri Architetti are members.

The plan, unanimously approved by the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Castelsantangelo sul Nera and now in the implementation phase at the municipal level, is based on ten objectives, including the reduction of seismic and natural hazards, the protection and enhancement of environmental resources to preserve the naturalistic value of local biodiversity, the recovery of the historical heritage and the use of innovative materials, highly sustainable energy production, and the relaunch of tourism. The activation of a new Reconstruction Plan consists in the proposal of a new model centred on the motto of ‘authentic and not identical’ reconstruction of places. While respecting historical urban layouts, it will therefore be possible to adapt the conformation of buildings and aggregates in order to be able to guarantee the minimum space and safe areas for the population that will repopulate the urban centres.

“In each project we have tried to build a dialogue with the local communities, with the aim of restarting with work, economic activities, and public spaces. We do not pursue a reconstruction based on the identity of ‘where they were and how they were’, but rather on the identity of the place, trying to recreate the spatial relations that have constituted for centuries the deep soul of a wounded territory, but ready to be reborn,” concludes Stefano Boeri.
