On Monday 26 april a further stage of development of the Masterplan for the Expo 2015 was presented at the Teatro Piccolo in Milan. After the presentation, Stefano Boeri, member of the Architectural Advisory Board in charge of the Concept Masterplan, gave the following statement:
The project of a “global farmland” based on a system of large greenhouses that reproduce the climatic conditions of the world (tropical forests, savannas, deserts, tundras, etc.) and of dozens of fields cultivatedby the different countries that will particpate in the Event of 2015, is the true heritage that the Expo will leave Milan, the Lombard Region, the whole country. After 2015 this planetary garden will become an extraordinary tourist attraction and a place of research and experimentation for all the coutries of the world. Together with the large spaces dedicated to food and nutrition at the Fair of Rho and Pero, with the recovery of the Triulza cascina as a musuem of nutrition and the substitution of the national pavilions to spaces dedicated to the agriculture and food of the different regions of Italy, the Global Farmland of Milan will transform the city into the world’s future capital of agroalimentary research.
Invited by Letizia Moratti (Mayor of Milano and Commissaire Extraordinaire for the Goverment for the Expo 2015) and Lucio Stanca (CEO of Expo 2015 S.p.a.) the presentation included the particpation of, , among others, Roberto Formigoni (President of the Region of Lombardia), Guido Podestà (President of the Province of Milan), Carlo Sangalli (President of the Presidente della Milanese Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafstmanship and Agriculture) and the architects Stefano Boeri, Richard Burdett, Jacques Herzog.
