The Cinisello Balsamo Shopping Centre on the outskirts of Milan was the first shopping mall ever to be built in Italy (1974). In two different phases Boeri Studio undertook the commission to completely renovate the complex, an intervention aimed at updating the shopping mall’s image and functionality.

A first phase thus concentrated on the reconfiguration of the internal distribution of spaces and the refurbishment of the external facades on the ground floor; a cladding surface made up of alveolar polycarbonate panels. A second phase completed in 2008 added a multistorey car park to the complex. A load load-bearing structure of reinforced concrete hidden by a evenly punctured stainless steel skin.
